Casillas punched Alexis Sánchez's free kick straight out at the Maracanã on 18 June 2014, and Aránguiz drove the rebound in for 2-0, the goal that sent the holders Spain home. Two Copa América titles followed with Chile in 2015 and 2016, and before them came the 2011 Copa Sudamericana with Universidad de Chile, the club's first international trophy, alongside two Chilean championships in the same year and eight seasons at Bayer Leverkusen. On 21 November 1973 he kicked off against nobody at the Estadio Nacional, walked the ball upfield with his team-mates and rolled it into an empty net, the Soviet Union having refused to play there. Colo-Colo reached the 1973 Copa Libertadores final with him running the midfield, the first final for a Chilean club, and he left the game with two Chilean championships, a Copa Chile and 215 league goals, the most in Chilean history until 2020.
