Uruguay's 7-0 opening rout of Yugoslavia in Paris in 1924 was the day Europe met Artillero, a nineteen-year-old centre forward who scored in it and finished the tournament as its leading marksman. He won the 1930 World Cup, Olympic gold in 1924 and 1928, South American Championships in 1923 and 1924 with the top scorer's award both times, and later took the Serie A scoring crown with Fiorentina in 1931/32. Career record: 28 caps and 24 goals for Uruguay; club career at Club Nacional de Football, ACF Fiorentina.
