Tau scored in first-half stoppage time of the CAF Champions League final first leg on 4 June 2023, putting Al Ahly ahead of Wydad in Cairo, and the 3-2 aggregate that followed made him a continental champion. A second Champions League followed in 2024, along with the 2023 African Inter-Club Player of the Year award as the first South African to win it, the Belgian title with Club Brugge, and PSL Footballer of the Year in 2018.
