Two minutes into his Al Wahda debut on 9 November 2000, the first Qatari to turn professional in the UAE league scored against Al Jazira, and he finished the derby with a hat-trick. He was the league's top scorer that season with 22 goals in 17 matches, won the Asian Cup Winners' Cup and Asian Super Cup with Al Nassr in 1998, and scored 34 goals in 69 caps for Qatar.
