He waited until he was 33 for his first Qatar call-up, in November 2023, and a year later, on 14 November 2024, he scored in the 102nd minute against Uzbekistan to end their 20-match unbeaten run in World Cup qualifying. He won the Asian Cup within three months of that debut, in February 2024, and made the Team of the Tournament, having already collected the 2017-18 Qatar Stars League, two Emir Cups and a Qatar Cup at Al Duhail.
