Monterrey's owners brewed Tecate, and a rival beer already carried his surname, so the dressing room settled on Tecatito, a name that travelled with him to Porto and stayed seven seasons. Mexico won the 2015 Gold Cup with his goal in the 3-1 final against Jamaica, and Porto took three Portuguese titles in his time, the 2019-20 one with him voted the league's best player.
