One club held him for fourteen years, Al-Hilal from October 1976 to 1990, and Saudi Arabia used him 99 times between 1978 and 1989, one cap short of a hundred. A defender in both of Saudi Arabia's first two Asian Cup triumphs, he was central to the 1984 win in Singapore and was named in the all-star team of the 1988 tournament in Qatar, where his side beat South Korea on penalties in the final.
