No club from outside Reykjavík had been champions of Iceland until 1951, when he finished as the league's top scorer and his home-town club ÍA carried the title to Akranes. His 17 goals for the national team stood as the Icelandic record until 2007, and he wore the captain's armband in 22 of his 33 caps while winning six Icelandic championships and scoring 139 league goals for ÍA.
