His first title came in Doha in 1988, when Iraq won the AFC Youth Championship, and he followed it into the U-20 World Cup in Saudi Arabia a year later. Between 1989 and 1995 he won more than sixty caps for Iraq, and he played at home for Al-Shabab, Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, Al-Rasheed, Al-Shorta and Al-Zawraa before a spell in Tunisia with Club Africain.
