Ghana beat Uganda 2-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium on 18 March 1978 with Acquaye in the squad at number 14, the day the Black Stars took the African title for a third time and kept the trophy for good. Africa Cup of Nations winner in 1978, and one of the few in that champion squad from outside the big names, since he played for Dumas Boys of GTP rather than Hearts, Kotoko or Olympics.
