A converted striker who had moved to full-back, he was in the Lyon back line at Colombes on 10 May 1964 when Néstor Combin scored twice inside 26 minutes to beat Bordeaux in the Coupe de France final. He won that cup again with Marseille in 1969, took 48 caps for France between 1964 and 1972, played at the 1966 World Cup, later wore the captain's armband and was voted the country's best full-back in 1970-71 at PSG.
