Behind Carlos Valderrama at the Monumental on 5 September 1993, he did the covering and the tackling in the 5-0 that took Colombia to the 1994 World Cup. He won the 1989 Copa Libertadores with Atlético Nacional, the first for a Colombian club, took two league titles with América de Cali in 1990 and 1992, played the 1990 and 1994 World Cups, and finished on 101 caps, third most in Colombia's history.
