Nineteen years old at the 2004 Copa América, Aguilar scored against Peru on 12 July and again in the 2-0 quarter-final win over Costa Rica five days later. He played at two World Cups, won the South American Under-20 Championship in 2005, and closed a Colombia career of 71 caps and seven goals that included a fiftieth appearance as a starter in the 3-0 win over Greece.
