Liaoning's centre forward through the campaign that ended on 29 April 1990 with a 3-2 aggregate win over Nissan Yokohama, he made his club the first from China to be crowned champion of Asia. Six league titles between 1985 and 1993 came with that Asian Club Championship, the FA Cups of 1984 and 1986, a silver medal at the 1984 Asian Cup and 21 goals in 45 games for China.
