Penalties found him twice: Daniele Massaro's at the Rose Bowl on 17 July 1994, then Phillip Cocu's and Ronald de Boer's in Marseille four years later. The first save carried Brazil to the 1994 World Cup and the second to the 1998 final, and he also won the Copa América in 1989 and 1997, Olympic silver in 1988, the 2000 UEFA Cup with Galatasaray and the 1993 Cup Winners' Cup with Parma.
