He insisted the tango was the best training available to him, and River Plate lived with the missed sessions because the inside forward of La Máquina returned 156 goals in 256 games. League titles followed in Argentina, Mexico, Chile and Colombia, a first for any footballer, alongside three South American Championships with Argentina and the best player award at the 1947 tournament. Career record: 34 caps and 19 goals for Argentina; club career at Club Atlético River Plate, Real Club España, Club Necaxa.
