Five minutes into the 2004 final in Tunis, Santos put Tunisia ahead of Morocco, and 60,000 people in the 7 November Stadium spent the rest of the night waiting for the title to arrive. He left 2004 as African champion and joint top scorer with four goals, scored 22 in 41 games for his adopted country, won a Ligue 2 title and the 2004 Coupe de la Ligue at Sochaux, and took a Swiss championship on loan at Zürich. Career record: 40 caps and 22 goals for Tunisia; club career at Étoile Sportive du Sahel, FC Sochaux-Montbéliard, Toulouse.

Tunisia went a goal down to Mexico in Rosario on 2 June 1978, then scored three after the break with Dhiab in the number 10 shirt directing them, the first World Cup win any African nation had managed. African Footballer of the Year in 1977, the only Tunisian ever to win it, voted his country's greatest player of the twentieth century in 2000, six league titles and four cups with Espérance, and sixteen years in the national side.
