Five minutes into the 2004 final in Tunis, Santos put Tunisia ahead of Morocco, and 60,000 people in the 7 November Stadium spent the rest of the night waiting for the title to arrive. He left 2004 as African champion and joint top scorer with four goals, scored 22 in 41 games for his adopted country, won a Ligue 2 title and the 2004 Coupe de la Ligue at Sochaux, and took a Swiss championship on loan at Zürich.
