Three goals in one afternoon at the Grand Hamad Stadium on 1 April 1976, as Iraq beat Saudi Arabia 7-1 at the Gulf Cup, carried his tally past thirty and kept him ahead of every Iraqi who had played before him. He finished on 36 goals in 84 caps, a national record until Hussein Saeed passed it in 1982, with fourth place at the 1976 Asian Cup and a place at the 1980 Olympics.
