Fifty-four goals in the Copa Libertadores between 1960 and 1972, a total nobody has approached since, and Peñarol's crowd called him Cabeza Mágica for the way he arrived on crosses. Three Libertadores titles in 1960, 1961 and 1966, two Intercontinental Cups against the European champions, eight Uruguayan league titles, and caps for both Ecuador and Uruguay, for whom he scored at Wembley.
