In Brazil in 2014 he ended the World Cup with four assists, tied with Toni Kroos at the top of the tournament chart despite playing fewer minutes than the German. At the Morumbí in June 2000 he beat out penalties from Faustino Asprilla and Roque Júnior to take the Copa Libertadores back to Boca Juniors after twenty-three years, and was named the final's best player. The 2001 Copa América followed on home soil, where Colombia won every match without conceding a goal, alongside a second Libertadores in 2001, the Intercontinental Cup against Real Madrid in 2000 and three Argentine league titles.
