Liverpool led 2-0 at Elland Road on 4 November 2000 before he scored on 24 minutes, again after the break, then twice inside two minutes on 73 and 75 to finish it 4-3. He captained Australia at the 2006 World Cup, won three Croatian titles at Dinamo Zagreb, took the Scottish League Cup and was Scotland's Footballer of the Year in 1999-2000, reached the 2006 UEFA Cup final with Middlesbrough and was Oceania Footballer of the Year in 2000. Australia had never scored at a World Cup until 12 June 2006, when he forced one in against Japan with six minutes left, struck a second four minutes later and turned a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 win.
