Stuttgart, 79 minutes gone on 22 June 2006, and Aloisi flicked on Bresciano's cross for Kewell to drive in the 2-2 with Croatia that carried Australia into a World Cup knockout round for the first time. He was the first Australian to win the European Cup, on the pitch for Liverpool's 2005 final in Istanbul, and added the 2006 FA Cup, PFA Young Player of the Year, and a Leeds semi-final run in the 2001 Champions League. In the last seconds against Italy at Kaiserslautern on 26 June 2006, Neill slid across in front of Fabio Grosso, Grosso went over the top of him, and Totti converted the penalty that put Australia out.
