Italy, summer 1990: the UAE walked out for the only World Cup they have ever reached, and it was Khamis in the number seven shirt wearing the captain's armband against Colombia and Yugoslavia. He scored 28 goals in 68 caps, took the GCC Golden Boot in 1982/83 and the Gulf Cup scoring prize in 1986, played the Asian Cups of 1984 and 1988, and spent seventeen senior seasons at Al Wasl across five of the club's league titles.
