He held the right flank for all 120 minutes of the Belgrade final on 20 June 1976 and was still on the pitch when Panenka chipped the penalty that ended the shoot-out against West Germany. European champion that night, he was named the tournament's best right defender, and he had already been Czechoslovak Footballer of the Year in 1974 and a league champion with Slovan Bratislava in 1974 and 1975.
