Lima called him the Poet of the Left Foot, and in Córdoba on 3 June 1978 he answered Joe Jordan's opener with a 43rd-minute equaliser and set Peru on the way to beating Scotland 3-1. Copa América in 1975, two World Cups, three Peruvian titles with Alianza Lima, the 1981 Colombian championship at Atlético Nacional where he captained the side and led the scoring with 17 goals, and one more with América de Cali in 1984. On the final day of the 2018/19 season, at 40 years and 227 days, he scored the 88th-minute winner against RB Leipzig and left the Bundesliga its oldest goalscorer. He won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup with Bayern in 2013, the Intercontinental Cup in 2001, six Bundesliga titles and five DFB-Pokals, plus a Pokal with Bremen, and finished with 197 Bundesliga goals in 490 games. Career record: 85 caps and 20 goals for Peru; club career at Club Alianza Lima, SV Werder Bremen, FC Bayern Munich.
