Saudi Arabia reached the 2007 Asian Cup final on his goals, four of them, level with Younis Mahmoud and Naohiro Takahara at the top of the tournament's scoring chart before Iraq took the trophy. He was named AFC Asian Footballer of the Year for 2007, won five Saudi league titles and seven Crown Prince Cups at Al-Hilal, and finished with 42 goals in 108 internationals.
